ALEXANDER RUDIN

Cellist and conductor. People’s Artist of Russia. Moscow Mayor’s Award (2001). Artistic Director of the “Musica Viva” Chamber Orchestra (since 1988). Performs with the “Arpeggione” orchestra (Austria). Regular concert tours worldwide.

Born in Moscow (1960). Graduated from The Gnessins State Music Academy of Russia as a cellist and a pianist (1983), then from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory as a conductor (1989), also teaches chamber ensemble there (since 2002). Guest Professor of the Jan Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (1991–92). President of the “Music Meetings” Public Foundation (since 1993). Teaches master classes throughout Europe on a regular basis.

Laureate of the “Concertino Prague” (1972) and the Cassado (Florence, 1979) International Competitions. Laureate (1975) and a jury member (1998) of the Bach Competition (Leipzig). Laureate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow International Competition: First Prize (1978), Second Prize (1982); a jury member of the 10th, 11th and 12th competitions. Participant of the festivals in Edinburgh, Istanbul, Ljubljana, etc.

Performs with the Russian National and Russia’s Grand Symphony Orchestras; also with such famous orchestras as the Vienna Symphony, the London Royal Philharmonic, the Bavarian Opera and the Danish Radio. Regularly recites together with Yu. Bashmet, B. Davidovich, N. Gutman, A. Lyubimov, V. Spivakov and other prominent musicians. Worked with Edisson Denisov and Dmitri Kabalevsky; now collaborates with such famous Russian composers as V. Artyomov, R. Shchedrin, V. Silvestrov and others.
