MIHAELA MARTIN
Violinist. Born in Romania (1959); permanently lives in Germany. Started playing violin since her five under her father’s direction. Continued studying with Prof. Stefan Gheorghiu (George Enescu’s and David Oistrakh’s pupil). Currently a teaching professor at the Cologne Music Academy.
Laureate of many international competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1978), then in Brussels, Indianapolis, Montreal, Sion (Switzerland) and others. Ms. Martin’s debuts in the Carnegie Hall and the US Congress Library were highly noted by both New York Times and Washington Post newspapers. Performed during many concert tours in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, Sweden and other countries.
Founder and 1st violin of the Michelangelo Quartet (2002); the other members are Stephan Picard (2nd violin), Nobuko Imai (viola) and Frans Helmerson (cello). Recites with world major symphony orchestras under the direction of Charles Dutoit, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Kurt Masur, Neeme Jarvi and others. Plays in chamber ensembles with Marta Argerich, Yuri Bashmet, Elisabeth Leonskaya, Menahem Pressler and other famous soloists; performs at the Radio and TV as well. Recorded several CDs. Plays a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin (1748).
