NACHUM ERLICH
The Jury’s Executive Secretary
Violinist, conductor and teacher.
Born in Jerusalem (1959). Studied with his father, a Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra musician; then at the conservatories in Jerusalem (with Yair Kless) and in Bern (with Max Rostal, 1975–81); also studied with Nathan Milstein, Henryk Szeryng and Steven Staryk. Assistant Professor at the Jan Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (1981–91). Professor at (since 1991), and Director of the Chamber Orchestra of (since 2001), Karlsruhe State University of Music. Adviser of the “Collegium Musicum” Ensemble’s violin group (since 2002).
Teaches master-classes in Austria, Brazil, Finland, Germany, Japan, Italy, Poland, South Korea, the USA and other countries on a regular basis. Participates in many international festivals. Often performs at the Radio and TV. Recorded several CDs, including very rarely performed Max Reger’s late sonatas (opuses 122 and 139).
Recites with such conductors as Rudolf Baumgartner, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Walter Weller and others. Famous as a chamber player, among whose partners are Siegfried Mauser, Wolfgang Meyer, Kalle Randalu and others. Conducts such chamber groups as “Festival Strings Lucerne”, “Camerata Bern”, Basle Chamber Orchestra, etc.; also performs as a chamber soloist.
