The First Competition – 2003

KWUN HYUK JOOKwun Hyuk Joo

Born in 1985 in Seoul (Korea). Started to play violin at the age of 3 years old.

Initiated concert activity since the age of 11 years old after entering Central Music School at Moscow State Conservatory named for P.I. Tchaykovsky at the class of Professor Eduard Gratch. Since 2001 he has been a student of Moscow Conservatory.

Prizewinner of Competitions:

  • 2004 – The Second Moscow International Competition of Violinists named for Paganini prizewinner (I prize);
  • 2004 – The Seventh Competition of violinists named for Carl Nilsen (I prize and the prize for the best performance of Danish composition as well as the prize for the young performers);
  • 2002 – The Third Competition of violinists named for Yampolsky (Grand Prix and the special prize for the interpretation of Mendelson-Yampolsky rondo-capriccioso performance);
  • 2001 – The Competition of Violinists in Kloster-Schontal, Germany (Grand-Prix) as well as EMCY prize and the special prize for the best performance. Qualified by «Strad Korea» magazine as one of the best Korean violinists;
  • 1997 – The Third International youthful competition named for P.I. Tchaikokovsky (II prize).

Performed 24 Paganini caprices in the Smaller Hall of Moscow State Conservatory named for P.I. Tchaikovsky in 2004 and will execute the same program in Seoul in 2005.

Performed solo Paganini compositions within the framework of the concert tour with “Moskoviya” chamber orchestra over Italy and Russia.
