The closing event of the Second Moscow Paganini Violin Competition, according to the tradition, was the gala Concert of Prizewinners and Jury Members. It took place on the first day of the winter – December 1, 2004 – on the New Stage of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of the Russian Federation. The Concert was hosted by Merited Companion of Art of Russia Svyatoslav Belza.
The official ceremony for awarding the Competition prizewinners was held during the first part of the Final Concert: the Grand Prix went to Alena Baeva (Russia); the First Prize, to Kwun Hyuk Joo (Korea); Ekaterina Frolova (Russia) and James Lee (Great Britain) shared the Third Prize. The strict Jury decided not to award the second prize.
Then the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre was fully given to the prizewinners of the Competition. The young musicians performed concert compositions with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra conducted by Merited Companion of Art of Russia Vladimir Ziva.
During the second part of the concert, the Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre was graced with dazzling performances of well-known musicians – the Competition Jury Members – accompanied by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra conducted by Merited Companion of Art of Russia Vladimir Ziva: Sergey Stadler, Eduard Grach, Mihaela Martin (Germany), Julian Rachlin (Austria), Itzhak Rashkovsky (Great Britain), and Alexander Rudin.
Concert Program
Concert compositions were performed on violins crafted by Antonio Stradivari (À. Baeva), Francesco Rugeri (À. Baeva), Guarneri del Jesu (J. Rachlin), J. B. Guadagnini (M. Martin), Alessandro Gagliano (E. Grach), J. B. Guadagnini (S. Stadler); and a cello made by Montagnan Domenico (À. Rudin).
That evening, the Concert held on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theater was attended by the following admirers of classical music: Georgy Poltavchenko, Russian President’s Plenipotentiary Representative for the Central Federal District; representatives of the diplomatic missions of the USA, Israel, Italy, Norway, and other countries; lawyer Pavel Astakhov; Vladimir Ruga, Vice President of TNK-BP; Elena Lyukshinova and Tatiana Lyukshinova, Heads of the Balls-Assemblies of The Third Millennium charity foundation; Marina Korotayeva, Head of the Pyotr Privalov Jewelry House; Etery Leviyeva, General Producer of Top Secret holding company; composers Enri Laloshvili and Aleksey Rybnikov; TV presenter Vladislav Flyarkovsky; and actresses Margarita Terekhova, Anna Terekhova, Yana Poplavskaya, Yelena Zakharova, and Amaliya Mordvinova.
